Bennet worked as the MD for Sun Microsystems, Australia and New Zealand for over ten years before leaving the role in February 2009. His departure came after local revenues fell by almost $100 million for the year to 30 June 2008, as a result of an unusually large deal with Telstra.

Bennet left Sun in a period of flux for the company, as it approached larger companies hoping to be acquired. Oracle ultimately purchased the company for US$7.4 billion in April 2009.

Also joining the company was Steve Coad, who has taken on the role of director of enterprise sales. Coad has previously held senior roles with IBM, EMC and Cisco.

Both directors will report to VMware's MD for Australia and New Zealand, Paul Harapin.

"As we drive the benefits of virtualisation and IT as a Service deeper into businesses, we will benefit from the insight these industry veterans bring to VMware," said Harapin. "I'm looking forward to working with both Duncan and Steve to take our ANZ business to the next level of maturity."

Bennet's successor, Andrew Goodlace also resigned his position last week, after 13 months in the role.
