MAA / Data Guard 10g Setup Guide - Creating a Single Instance Physical Standby for a RAC Primary

Publisher's description

This paper focuses on creating a single instance physical standby database for a RAC primary database. It is assumed that there is an existing RAC database and reader wants to implement Data Guard by adding a physical standby database to the configuration. The end configuration for this paper is a RAC primary database with a single-instance physical standby database. The steps outlined in this paper use SQLPlus, apply to both Oracle Database 10g Release 1 and Oracle Database 10g Release 2, and they assume using ASM/OMF, and that the software and ASM instance on the standby host have already been installed/created.

Analyst Webcast with Merv Adrian: Leverage your Data Assets Across the Global Enterprise

We are pleased to have Merv Adrian, IT Market Strategy Analyst, join us in this Sybase sponsored webcast to explore the critical issue of data integration environments in the enterprise - many of which are fragmented and poorly managed.

Mr. Adrian will address how heterogeneity is the new standard in today's data center, where multiple DBMSs, multiple versions of the same DBMS, and applications running on different DBMSs exist side by side. As organizations begin to realize the need to keep data synchronized and available in these multiple locations, replication technologies fill a critical need. Keeping data warehouses fresh, supporting product migrations and disaster recovery depends on an effective data replication strategy. Multiple, single source, point-to-point connections are not the answer - he will show you how to take a comprehensive view of unifying your data.

Join us to:

  • Learn about critical data integration issues in the enterprise and how they can be addressed with strategic data synchronization solutions
  • Hear how specific companies like yours are meeting their data movement and real-time reporting needs
  • Understand how Sybase Replication Server enables pervasive data accessibility and real-time data delivery across mixed data environments including Oracle, MS SQL, IBM UDB, and Sybase

Rejuvenating High Available Virtualized Systems

Virtualization technology in the form of server consolidation makes running of hot-standby replicas on one system possible, while software rejuvenation provides proactive recovery of failure. Both technologies have been used to make systems more dependable. However, the deployment of rejuvenation in virtualized systems had been limited only to Virtual Machines (VMs) or only to virtual machine monitors (VMMs), requiring changes to applications too. The paper proposes a new rejuvenation technique for high available virtualized systems that is applied at both VM and VMM levels and yet it does not require any modifications to applications. The proposition leverages the encapsulation of an application into a VM using this new combinatory rejuvenation technique that uses a time-based policy for VMM and a prediction-based policy for VMs.
