This paper describes two methods that can be used to significantly increase the performance of backups taken with the BMC Recovery Manager for Oracle product from BMC Software. The new multiplexing feature introduced with BMC Recovery Manager 5.5 enables one to run simultaneous dump processes and transmit the backup data to a single stream. Disk optimization is a method of sequencing read operations on systems with multiple disks. In many environments, multiplexing can be combined with disk optimization to maximize performance at every stage of a backup. The proper use of these features will enable one to back up Oracle databases faster than ever before.
