Automated Vulnerability Detection System

Vulnerability assessments have been recently identified, by independent market research, as one of the most sought after managed security outsourcing services. As with the outsourcing of any business function, the final decision is based on whether or not a trusted partner can do the job more efficiently, cheaper, and perhaps faster. But when examining vulnerability scanning as an outsourced service, one really important further factor must be taken into consideration - the credibility and expertise of the outsourcing partner with respect to vulnerability data acquisition and distribution of that information. To help examine this question in relation to vulnerability assessments, this paper examines how vulnerability assessments are currently performed, and then discusses evolving roles for vulnerability assessments in a managed security service paradigm.
