Westpac taps Whincup as new CIO

After the exit of Bob McKinnon from Westpac's top IT position, the bank has named Clive Whincup as its new chief information officer.

Westpac announced that Whincup will start in the CIO role tomorrow on 1 December.

Whincup was part of McKinnon's "technology A-team", brought on-board to manage applications, infrastructure, engineering and sustainability across the Westpac Group as its group general manager of Service Delivery.

McKinnon left the CIO role to take a higher position in the organisation last week, working with chief operating officer John Arthur to lead the newly restructured Westpac Group. At the time, McKinnon said he had wished to step down from a full-time executive role.

Arthur said he was thrilled at Whincup's appointment.

"I am delighted to announce the appointment to CIO of such a high calibre member of our team. Clive has more than 25 years' experience across IT and financial services, holding a number of senior roles at several global banks.

"His international experience and background in transformational change and complex programs of work position him ideally for this critical leadership role, and I very much look forward to working with him," Arthur said of the executive's new position.

Whincup has experience working in key leadership positions in Lloyds TSB, Bank of Scotland and Banca Popolare di Milano in Italy. Whincup has also held a role as the CIO of Lloyds' UK Retail Bank.
