Virtualisation and cloud provider VMware has established new offices in Southbank, Melbourne, which were officially opened today by Victorian Minister for Information and Communication Technology John Lenders. The new offices will see the creation of 75 jobs between now and 2013.

The new "Victorian headquarters" will be VMware's sixth site in Australia. The company has an office situated in every capital city except Darwin.

"VMware's premises will build on Victoria's technology capabilities and may also attract further investment from other virtualisation, software-as-a-service and datacentre providers develop a local talent pool as well as provide local service and technology companies an opportunity to collaborate," Lenders said in a statement.

Last year, VMware signed a two-year contract with the Victorian Government, which consolidated servers across 14 essential government departments and agencies using virtualisation. Lenders said that the Victorian Government valued the virtualisation technology's ability to help cut business costs and the carbon footprint.

Enex TestLab has also made a contribution to the state's technology sector by announcing yesterday that it would expand its Victorian operations, creating at least 20 new jobs before the end of 2010. Enex TestLab runs independent, scientific test environments with clients including Canon, Intel and Computer Associates, with offices based in China and the UK.

"Enex TestLab is another great Victorian success story, employing specialist staff and contractors to undertake testing for many of the world's leading brands — saving these companies millions of dollars every year," Lenders said.
