NBN cost-benefit analyses are so 2011

A year ago, Malcolm Turnbull repeatedly proclaimed that a coalition government would stop the NBN in its tracks and conduct a cost-benefit analysis on the NBN. These days, the analysis doesn't even get a look in. Is the idea dead forever — or could it still offer some value?

Satellite-hating Libs blow policy free kick

Malcolm Turnbull has become so good at deflecting anything that Labor does that he reflexively launched a volley at NBN Co's $2 billion satellite project, fumbling the tremendous opportunity that the investment presented. Better use of the satellites could help both the Labor and Liberal visions of the NBN, but can policy dogma bend enough for Turnbull to admit it?

Has Telstra made 84,000 reasons to filter?

The heated debate about internet filtering has calmed down this year, with voluntary filtering at several ISPs drawing little of the chanting, marching and petitioning that we saw two years ago. Does this fact, paired with recent statistics showing that Telstra's filter is keeping at least a few sickos from casual child porn access, legitimise the case for moderate internet filtering?
