Tech lobbyists revealed for Vic, SA

Since South Australia and Victoria's lobbyist registers became effective this week, many companies have included themselves — a good proportion of which are representing large technology brands.

Lobbyists are required to register details on the lists before making contact with a government representative.

The list of companies jostling for the ear of the South Australian politicians include Optus, Telstra, Huawei, Broadcast Australia and Motorola, in the telco arena.

On the software vendor side, SAP and Oracle spend money pushing their case with the government. HP and Fujitsu are also going head to head to curry favour.

The favourite lobbyist for South Australian technology appears to be Hawker Britton Group. It handles Telstra, Motorola, Oracle and Fujitsu.

Victoria had a much bigger haul of technology companies seeking to speak their mind to government representatives. Optus and Motorola have engaged two companies. Broadcast Australia only engaged one. Again Oracle, SAP, HP and Fujitsu spent dollars on reaching government ears.

Those who were quick to use lobbyists on Victoria's list but not South Australia's included Apple, Dell, Google, Accenture, Mincom, Hutchison, Cisco, eBay, Telstra's Sensis, eBay and Harvey Norman. Telstra itself didn't get a mention.

Companies that have engaged the services of lobbyists for the Federal Government but are missing on either state list include Microsoft, ASG Group, CSC, CSG and Capgemini.
