The new release of Kai's Power Tools ($329), which jumps from Version 3 to 5, isn't so much an upgrade as a new product. • MSI Wind12 U200

The MSI Wind12 U200 sits in that comfortable space between netbook and laptop if you have modest needs, but still want a decent screen size and a bit more power than Intel's Atom offers, the U200 might be the laptop you're looking for.

  • MSI VR603

MSI's VR603 is a perfectly fine budget laptop marred by the use of the Sentelic touchpad.

  • MSI GT725

MSI's GT725 is a bleeding fast laptop. There's a number of design and software concerns, however, the price alone allows most of these to be forgiven. If you need a powerful desktop replacement, consider the GT725.

  • MSI EX300

We like the MSI EX300. If you're on a budget, it doesn't cut too many corners. It does seem a little heavy for a laptop of this size, but should otherwise fulfil most of your needs.

  • MSI EX720

MSI's EX720 isn't a bad laptop, but it certainly strikes as one with too many shortcuts taken. Still at AU$1,649 it's affordable, and if you're budget and technically minded you'll likely get some decent mileage out of this laptop.
