A high level Telstra executive has labelled other potential bidders for the proposed FTTN network as "pretenders" after it was revealed the telco suggested to the government that it attach a multi-million dollar application fee and bond to all its network tender requests.
Telstra has confirmed it will provide the government with the information it is seeking on the telco's broadband network -- and will put some of its investment on hold until after the fibre-to-the-node tender process is over.
Telstra claims it wants to adhere to Broadband Minister Stephen Conroy's request for details about its network infrastructure but will not yet do so because it is worried the information will help terrorists and threaten national security.
Arch-rivals Optus and Telstra will face off in court tomorrow as the SingTel subsidiary gets an initial hearing of its claim Telstra unfairly raised wholesale line rental prices in December last year.
Telstra today launched a Federal Court legal challenge to a recent notice issued by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) which accused the telco of anti-competitive actions.
Virtually everyone in the telecommunications industry has their say in the Senate Standing Committee's public hearing into the pending legislation to split up Telstra, in this week's Twisted Wire podcast.
Earlier this week (Tuesday 3 March) a number of telecommunications industry heavyweights fronted up to the Senate Select Committee on the National Broadband Network.
