The Australian music industry's piracy investigations body has slammed new research on digital file sharing as "misguided", saying the survey fails to take into account the "property rights" of music owners.
The maker of the file-sharing client Kazaa is advising users to protect themselves against the Fizzer virus by turning on the software's built-in anti-virus protection.
Kazaa will soon be the most popular free program on the Web as it surpasses ICQ, according to owner Sharman Networks.
Sharman Networks has rejected claims from the music industry that it can identify the difference between copyright infringing and legitimate file-sharing on its network, a crucial step towards the company gaining the capacity to block illegal file-sharing.
Sharman Networks and MIPI will be back in Federal court Friday for yet another legal contest over access to evidence that was confiscated in raids last February.
In order to get the real picture behind the US-Australia free trade agreement, one needs to examine the document with a fine-tooth comb. Of particular interest is how Australia will have to model its laws after the US Millennium Copyright Act.
KaZaA's gotten a lot of bad press lately for ethically dubious software bundling schemes. Is the application behind the furore worth checking out?
Despite the RIAA's efforts to shut down file-swapping services, these 10 apps carry Napster's torch.
