While the higher power consumption is a slight concern, the X4 955 proves that AMD is back in the performance game and ready to play hard ball. Bring on the next generation.
Sun Microsystem's Sun Fire X4275 is an excellent all-rounder, although we'd love it if the noise could be cut down a little more.
Ultimately MSI's X-Slim X340 is a disappointment. It is reasonably attractive, but it's not worth the price due to the horrible keyboard and budget touchpad.
For a 12-inch laptop we'd expect more performance and features than we're getting, but there are obviously compromises to be made in making ultrathin affordable.
Despite its strong performance, the tacky design and inflated price leaves the Toshiba Tecra R10 behind the competition.
