Optus has decided to lease a new capacity from another unnamed carrier to prevent a network disaster such as Queensland's loss of internet, voice and mobile services last month.

Optus customers in Sydney and Melbourne today had problems accessing their 3G wireless broadband services as another outage dogged the carrier.
Optus has still not pinpointed the cause of the mobile network outage which occurred on Friday, affecting 3G data services as well as voice.
Optus this week claimed the 3G mobile outages it had been suffering were normal and every telecommunications carrier would be having similar issues.
