Three Australian universities have announced substantial, multi-million dollar network upgrades in as many days, as the higher education sector moves to come up to speed with campus users.
Cisco said earlier this week that its latest upgrade to its Unified Communications software will enable users to access its full suite of features on mobile devices.
Microsoft is set to go one up on Cisco with the announcement -- just a day after the chief executives of both firms sang the co-operation tune -- that it plans to offer unified communications on an on-demand basis.
Microsoft and Cisco plan to work more closely together to ensure their products interoperate, while remaining fierce rivals in other markets.
Microsoft's unified communications division is upping the ante with the release of Office Communications Server 2007 and Office Communicator 2007 to manufacturing.
