Chip maker Intel is prepararing to rollout a slew of new 45-nanometre Penryn processors in the first year, according to industry reports.
Intel's announcements at its 2007 Developer Forum in San Francisco centred around the availability of its Penryn processors later this year and future plans for its Nehalem microarchitecture, but CEO Paul Otellini also used the opening keynote to show off some cool prototypes and other fancy equipment.
Improvements to the processor, chipset and wireless components of Intel's latest mobile platform should result in a new generation of faster notebooks with longer battery life. Business systems will also get Intel's Active Management Technology (AMT) for the first time, while Turbo Memory should reduce the frequency of hard disk accesses, saving power and boosting performance.
The latest bundle of mobile technologies from Intel arrives late and somewhat piecemeal, but delivers a useful set of incremental enhancements.
