The telco exodus which has plagued the Terria broadband consortium over the last week is now over, according to remaining members, who yesterday pledged their support as being "rock solid".
Terria and Telstra today welcomed Communications Minister Stephen Conroy's move to name 26 November as the final deadline for bids to build and operate the planned national broadband network, but did not change their positions on how the initiative should go forward.
Tomorrow marks the due date for proposals to build the government's $4.7 billion national broadband network, and speculation is mounting on how many bids the government will receive, as Telstra continues to vacillate on whether it will be part of the race. ZDNet.com.au has done a call around to see where the bidders stand.
Australia's third-largest ISP iiNet said yesterday that the government's $4.7 billion national broadband network was "doomed to be a monumental failure" despite the fact that iiNet itself is a member of Terria, a consortium bidding to build the network.
The Federal government will be able to share in any profits generated by the multibillion dollar national fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) network if Terria's bid wins out, with the consortium's chairman revealing that its proposal would see network financed via an equity-debt mix.
