Hutchison employees remain uninformed about the official action to be taken by the troubled telco, with workers unrepresented at meetings this morning, at which impending redundancies were believed to have been discussed.
Open Telecommunications' administrator Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu has said that approximately 70 staff will be reinstated today in Sydney, following support from Comindico and LG for the telco’s switching business.
UPDATE: In its second round of redundancies, Optus will shed a further 344 full-time positions and 217 contractual workers, the country's second biggest telco has confirmed today.
Struggling telecoms player Hutchison will shed over 300 positions as part of a restructure which will also see it offload its GSM mobile customers to Optus for AU$43 million.
For one in every two Australian workers the convenience of having a mobile office in their pocket is counteracted by the 24x7 work ethic it encourages, according to a new nationwide survey by recruitment company TMP Worldwide.
