Just weeks would be needed for Centrelink's identity management rollout to be streamlined to handle a proposed mass introduction of smartcards to either citizens or public servants, according to a vendor involved in the project.
The federal welfare agency has contracted Novell to provide identity management software for its nationwide network.
Centrelink, the Australian government agency responsible for distributing social security payments, is expecting delivery of Novell's Open Enterprise Server technology early next year -- another step on the organisation's path that seems to lead to the ubiquitous deployment of Linux.
