HTC today announced three new smartphone handsets in Australia, with two exclusively bound for Telstra and one to Optus.
Telstra Sol Trujillo was not given the phone with Microsoft prototype software that recently went missing, according to Telstra.
Overnight Microsoft officially unveiled the latest version of its mobile operating system at GSMA Mobile World Congress 2009.
With all eyes on the Australian iPhone release, HTC has stolen some of the limelight with the release of the Touch Diamond. Coming in glossy black, with a large touch screen and an array of features, everything about this phone screams iPhone rival.
Last year I opined that, even if Telstra did launch Apple's iPhone 3G, conflicting goals meant it couldn't afford to seriously back the product. This year, Telstra proved me right, and the reason is simple: Australia's biggest telco just wants to be a Mac.
What a week it's been for mobiles.
After months and months of waiting, Microsoft has finally kicked its latest mobile operating system out of the nest to see if it can fend for itself in the big, bad world of smartphone rivalries. Alongside the OS itself, Microsoft also rolled out a bunch of new web-based services as well.
HTC has announced the Australian availability of the Touch Diamond in Sydney today, with the phone set to hit these shores between the end of July and early August.

The HTC Touch Diamond offers much in the way of sex appeal and flash, and it's certainly got a formidable feature set. However, we hope HTC resolves some of the performance issues we've noticed before its local release.
If you're prepared to manage the memory and train yourself to use the keyboard, then there are few WiMo phones sexier than the Diamond2.
Amongst the numerous HTC handsets this year, the unassuming Touch 3G may not make the strongest impact, but it is certainly one of our favourites.
Although there are some design quirks, the Samsung Omnia promises to be a solid alternative to Apple's iPhone.
The HP iPAQ 912c defines the middle of the road. When you consider its performance versus the price, the 912c is passable but painfully average.
HP's latest iPAQ, the 612c Business Navigator, is a solid offering with lots of features and good battery life. It's a bland-looking and giant handset, but good performance and crisp touchscreen somewhat make up for the poor keypad.
