ASX-listed ISP iiNet is to buy fellow West Australian service provider Westnet for AU$81 million in cash.
Australia's third-largest internet service provider iiNet today said it had signed up more than 30,000 local customers to its naked DSL service and more than 80,000 to its internet telephony offering.
Perth-based internet service provider Westnet has started trialling ADSL2+ services using its new parent iiNet's broadband network, with a formal launch date likely to come before the end of the year.
Several of the nation's largest broadband sellers today said they had no intention of imitating competitor iiNet and suspending the sale of services to new customers in regional markets, although Telstra's wholesale pricing remains a worry.
Western Australian internet service provider iiNet took an extra 47,500 broadband customers over the past year, and also added over 67,000 naked DSL subscribers.
The broadband business -- plans, peaks, and penalties -- can be confusing to say the least. We line up some of Australia's best.
