SBC Communications on Monday announced plans to acquire AT&T in a US$16 billion deal, a move designed to bolster SBC's sales to enterprise customers nationwide and give it new national and global networks.
Sharman Networks, parent company of the peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing software Kazaa, are rejoicing at the US court ruling that found two similar P2P programs, Grokster and Morpheus, do not violate US copyright law. However, the company concedes that the ruling is unlikely to have any effect on the music copyright infringement case currently underway in Australia.
Following Sharman Networks' announcement that it filed papers with the United States Supreme Court in support of file sharing companies Grokster and StreamCast, ZDNet Australia spoke to the p2p software company's California based legal team and Australia's own piracy investigations chief about copyright infringement, technology and the law.
