  • Feds aim to tackle overseas spammers

    The Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan, announced today that the Spam Act 2003 will be reviewed next year and hinted that the government's main focus will be to stop spam that originates from overseas.

  • Do not call register to go ahead

    Telemarketers will have to abide by a national Do Not Call register in 2007, after the federal government announced it would soon introduce legislation to protect consumers.

  • Broadband Connect gets another AU$20m

    The federal government has allocated an additional AU$20 million to cover a shortfall in funding for the Broadband Connect rural broadband subsidy.

  • Senate passes spam bill without amendments

    Australia's anti-spam legislation, the Spam Act 2003, was passed by the Senate today without amendment, and will be enacted following the governor general's approval.

  • Thou shalt telecommute, says Senator Coonan

    The federal government has set up a committee to pave the way for more Australians to live the telecommuter lifestyle. However the move won't go as far as recent legislation in the United States which requires government departments to support teleworkers.
