These days, more and more people are choosing to avoid the tacky tinsel and Christmas carol muzak by hitting the Internet to buy presents for their nearest and dearest. ZDNet Australia looks at the online shopping boom expected to take place this holiday season.
A flurry of Australian activity hit the online shopping market just before the festive period as dot-com retailers challenged the market share of traditional counterparts.
One of the biggest advantages of the Internet is its global expansiveness, with the ability for users to reach the other side of the world as quick as a mouse click. One local survey, however, has revealed that the majority of Australian online retailers are missing the point completely, ignoring potential overseas customers.
eBay-owned shopping portal Shopping.com believes the Australian e-commerce market is finally ripe for the picking, and will launch its Australian service this week with 200 local retail partners.
Internet retailer TheSpot will launch a second online shop tomorrow -- beautyspot.com.au -- claimed to be Australia's first on-line beauty retailer.
