Canonical plans to release Hardy Heron, its newest version of Ubuntu Linux on Thursday.
Fans of Ubuntu, the version of Linux developed by start-up Canonical and its open-source allies, now have a name and a priority for the version due in October: Intrepid Ibex will be designed to make mobile computing better.
Ubuntu Developer Jono Bacon posted news of the new version on a mailing list and his blog on Wednesday in the US. Hardy Heron will be the second of Canonical's Linux products to feature long-term support.
Canonical on Thursday released version 7.04 of Ubuntu Linux, nicknamed Feisty Fawn, but the company's Web site was unable to keep up with the demand for the software.
The Linux variant is taking a different tack on the multi-OS tech as it vies with offerings from Red Hat and Novell.
