Telstra's major rivals have moved a step closer to bringing their rival fibre broadband plan to fruition, enlisting the help of an international banking group to help with the process.
A group of Telstra's major rivals known as the G9 have placed full-page advertisements in major newspapers in an effort to prevent a deal between Telstra and the federal government on a new national fibre broadband network.
A high level Telstra executive has labelled other potential bidders for the proposed FTTN network as "pretenders" after it was revealed the telco suggested to the government that it attach a multi-million dollar application fee and bond to all its network tender requests.

Broadband Minister Senator Stephen Conroy has demanded that Telstra -- and a series of other carriers -- provide him with the physical details of their networks, in order to enlighten companies that may be interested in building the government's proposed fibre-to-the-node network.
