Australia's NineMSN has announced it will close its chat-rooms in the interests of child safety, effective 14 October.
NineMSN may have garnered headlines galore through its plan to shut down its chatroom services because of paedophile concerns, but the service's own Web site doesn't appear too keen to warn users of the closure.
COMMENTARY: Microsoft claims it has taken down its chatrooms in the interest of protecting children - but its motives may not be as altruistic as they seem.
Vodafone Australia said it planned to introduce 24-hour moderators and profanity filters in its mobile chat-rooms as part of a range of measures to reduce the potential for paedophiles to abuse the service.
Australia's highest-trafficked Web site, ninemsn, today announced a partnership with the Internet education and safety advisory body, NetAlert, to address online child safety issues.
