The Howard government will seek to ban betting on the Internet, claiming the country has a gambling problem.
Tabcorp announced it will launch a self-exclusion service on Monday that allows gambling addicts to ban themselves from accessing their Internet or phone betting accounts.
Civil liberties group Electronic Frontiers Australia has lampooned the federal government's plan to ban online gambling, saying Prime Minister Howard has lost sight of the global nature of the Internet.
