After a hiatus, the gang behind the Storm worm is attempting to exploit people's curiosity about a fictional love interest to tempt users into downloading the malware, according to security training organisation the Sans Institute.
Criminals behind the Storm worm have created a botnet containing millions of PCs, which have a combined computing power greater than the most powerful supercomputer in existence.
Opportunistic spammers are increasingly posting additional threats, such as links to malware, within the body of their unsolicited e-mail messages, according to new findings by Internet security company Marshal Software.
The owners of the Storm botnet, whose identities are as yet unknown, could be preparing to sell off the "services" of segments of the network, according to Joe Stewart, a researcher from managed security services company SecureWorks.
The recent surge in worms could be part of an underground battle to hijack computers for use in Internet crimes, some security experts say -- but others aren't convinced.
You can't hear them and you can't see them, but be warned, bots are all around us and they do have a search-and-destroy attitude that could be the death of your business.
