Unisys West, a joint IT services venture between Unisys and BankWest, today sailed into uncertain waters with allegations the West Australian bank was being circled by potential acquirers.
The Commonwealth Bank of Australia today said it would merge BankWest's technology platforms with its own as part of its planned $2.1 billion acquisition of the Western Australian bank.
Local bank Bankwest has sold back to Unisys the 49 per cent stake it held in Unisys West, a Perth-based IT outsourcing company jointly owned by the pair.
Commonwealth Bank of Australia subsidiary Bankwest today confirmed it would cut at least "a handful" of IT staff as part of a wider cull that has also seen the bank refrain from hiring an additional 50 IT contractors over the past few months.
Unisys West, the Unisys-controlled IT outsourcing joint venture with BankWest, hangs on to its old customer by a thread as the two work towards a final date for complete separation.
