Sacked staff from Ericsson Australia's closed AsiaPacificLab, many of whom had worked for the Swedish telecommunications equipment supplier since graduating from university, are picking up their careers and moving on.
Ericsson Australia's AsiaPacificLab research and development facility finally closed its doors on Friday, with the former managing director of the once grand centre attributing its closure to the "tyranny of distance".
Bridging the cultural gulf between the research and development community and the commercial sector is no mean feat.
Ericsson is set to slash a further 7,000 jobs in a world-wide cost cutting measure following the release of their quarter results, bringing the total number of workers facing the axe to 14,000 over the next 20 months.
Australia's federal communications minister has described telecommunications company Ericsson's shutdown of its Asia-Pacific research facility as due to it being "in very serious trouble as an organisation".
