The open-source community is pushing customers to patch their systems to close a hole in a software component that allows Windows programs to store and retrieve files on Linux and Unix servers.

LinuxPPC has released a new version of its Linux OS bundle of software and tools for PowerPC Macs. Linux is set to make its debut on the PowerPC. The new bundle, named LinuxPPC 1999, has an improved installer and a new interface and comes with software for networking, development and other uses, including Netscape's Communicator 4.6.
