Internet service provider Internode has halted its regional broadband rollout due to an "unexpected and premature end" of the federal government's Broadband Connect Program.
The nation's third-largest Internet Service Provider has stopped accepting ADSL customers in regional areas in protest over claims of unrealistic pricing by Telstra.
Several of the nation's largest broadband sellers today said they had no intention of imitating competitor iiNet and suspending the sale of services to new customers in regional markets, although Telstra's wholesale pricing remains a worry.
iiNet is set to be the first of many Internet Service Providers to cut back on the sale of ADSL-based broadband services to the bush unless the competition regulator backs down on its planned wholesale pricing policy, Telstra claims.
Telstra has backtracked on its intentions to introduce three-gigabyte 'capping' and 'additional usage' options for broadband Internet users, but refuses to say whether it's canned the idea completely.
Netspace regulatory and carrier affairs manager Matthew Phillips has a lovely big green box. But what's inside? Tell us to win a double DVD box set of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre films.
Net neutrality has the superficial attraction of 1960's free love, argues Telstra's Justin Milne, until you realise that one party gets all the gratification while the other bears all the costs.
iiNet and Telstra seem to be at loggerheads but the real culprit, according to the telco giant, is the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
