The federal government has invited the telecommunications industry to comment on ways the competition watchdog can more effectively act against anti-competitive conduct.
A consortium of five telecommunications carriers operating under the banner of the Competitive Carriers' Coalition hopes to foment a revolution in the industry, representatives said today.
A coalition of smaller carriers have rejected yesterday's ACCC pay TV decision, saying it will serve to strengthen Telstra's monopoly over the telecommunications market.
While the Federal IT Department introduces legislative changes designed to encourage competition in the telecommunications sector, Telstra warned of an anti-competitive loophole which may see the incumbent telco out of pocket.
Broadband Minister Stephen Conroy has hit back at criticism the government's fibre-to-the-node tender documents are far too light on detail, saying they were designed that way.
