The take-up of broadband services grew 19 percent in the September 2005 quarter to over 2.5 million subscribers, according to the latest data from the competition regulator.
A claim by Telstra that a new pricing system would cost the telco AU$800 million had simply been plucked out of the air, the competition watchdog said today.
Telstra boss Sol Trujillo is expected to conduct a number of briefings over the next two weeks in the lead-up to a keynote speech at the National Press Club.
Telstra has asked the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) permission to charge its rivals $30 per customer per month to use its copper wires in suburban areas, until January 2010.
It's not at all quiet on the fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) network front, as telcos lodge their submissions on regulatory issues for the AU$4.7 billion national broadband network (NBN) and the Liberal party throws a spanner in the works by starting an inquiry into the government's handling of the network tender.
