CNET.com.au’s New Look!

CNET.com.auCNET.com.au has launched this week with a new look and more user-friendly feel for readers!

CNET.com.au is now in a wide-screen format for readers and has been re-organised with new Web 2.0 and AJAX features to ensure readers have much more dynamic control of the information that they want to access. CNET.com.au has a customisable liquid design which allows readers to choose whether they see only features, reviews or headlines and story summaries. Content as readers want it!

The areas that CNET.com.au covers have been re-defined into 16 technology categories to make it easier for the reader to navigate and find their product information more easily. New categories include broadband, DVDs and PVR, PDAs and GPS, camcorders, printers and projectors, which were featured previously in the old design but now have specific areas dedicated to them.

The new-style CNET.com.au also includes enhanced user feedback features for readers. Visitors to CNET.com.au can more easily start “Talkback” with Editors to give them their views on product reviews and latest news. There are more user-friendly features for readers to vote on the products that they like and they can immediately see the outcome of the CNET.com.au readership’s votes with an improved ratings system.

In line with CNET.com.au’s increased focus on video, the new CNET.com.au will also ensure that CNET.com.au readers can access growing video archives easily and within an “easy to watch” setting.

Sun Microsystems IT Journalist Awards 2006

CNET.com.au took away the Best Consumer Title and the Best New Technology Title in this year’s IT journalist industry awards. It was also highly commended by judges in the Best Technology Media Website category.

Senior Editors Jeremy Roche and Randolph Ramsay from CNET.com.au were also nominated as finalists in the Best Technology Reviewer and the Helen Dancer Best Consumer Technology Journalist categories respectively.

CNET.com.au Editors’ Choice and People’s Choice Awards at CeBIT 2006

Editors’ Choice - CNET.com.auVisiting CeBIT 2006? CNET.com.au will be awarding its Editors’ Choice Award for the “Best Consumer Product or Service” at CeBIT 2006 this year.

The Editors’ Choice award will be awarded to the product that significantly affects the competitive landscape of its market, whether through innovative features, exceptional value for the price, remarkable ease of use, or a beneficial impact on a person's work or lifestyle.

It will also be judged on the considerable overall benefits that the Editors feel that the product or service will bring to a buyer’s consumer lifestyle.

CeBIT AustraliaCNET.com.au will also open its “People’s Choice” award for CeBIT 2006 and readers will be able to vote for the product which they think should be awarded the “Best Consumer Product or Service” at the show. The People’s Choice award will be announced on CNET.com.au, the week after CeBIT.

If you would like your product or service to be included in the voting on the CNET.com.au website, please send an image and specs to marketing@cnet.com.au. Products must have been released less than three months ago or launched at CeBIT 2006. IT Fund For Kids – “Putting IT Back” Campaign 2006

IT Fund for KidsCNET.com.au and ZDNet.com.au are this year’s official media partners to the IT Fund for Kids to support it with its national “Know IT All” fund raising challenge to help seriously ill and autistic children.

The two websites have teamed with IT Fund for Kids to encourage IT and IT related industries to dig into their pockets to help the Fund reach its 2006 target of AU$500,000.

“According to Forrester*, 33% of firms have anticipated an IT budget increase of an average of 5% for 2006 while the percent of funds going toward new IT investments increased to 26% — up 8% from 2005,” said Wendy Hogan, Vice President and Managing Director, CNET Networks Australia. “This indicates a healthy growth in the IT sector and through promoting this cause to our CNET.com.au and ZDNet Australia audiences, we hope to encourage a record number of donations this year from IT related sectors to this worthwhile cause.”

One component of the fund raising challenge is a “Know IT All” Dinner Challenge held at the Grand Ballroom in the Sydney Hilton on 25 May 2006. For those who are not able to attend the festivities, IT Fund for Kids is also asking individuals and their organisations to “Donate a Day’s Pay” (or nominated amount) to the IT Fund for Kids to help it reach its 2006 target of AU$500,000.
