PlayStation 3 launch

SYDNEY, Australia – 20 March 2007 - The latest salvo in the game consoles war is set to be fired by Sony Entertainment when it releases its highly anticipated PlayStation 3 (PS3) this coming Friday, 23 March 2007. But this is no simple product launch as the battle between Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo for millions of hearts and minds in Australia reaches fever pitch. Regardless, the official launch of PS3 at Myer’s Sydney city store is likely to elicit a massive response from a public eager to get its hands on the latest in electronic games hardware.

  • But how does the PS3 compare against its competitors?
  • And how do consumers decide which games console to buy?
  • What’s good and not so good about PS3 and is it really worth the hefty $1,000 price tag (compared, for example, against $450.00 for an Xbox 360)?

Randolph Ramsay, Games Editor for consumer technology news and review web site CNET.com.au and specialist games review website GameSpot AU (au.gamespot.com), is one of the first in Australia to have given the PS3 a thorough test drive and review. Randolph is available to provide unbiased and independent commentary on the pros and cons of PS3 and the other game consoles on the market, gaming and consumer trends, and what consumer will really need to get the most out of an investment in PS3.
