CNET Networks Australia launches GameSpot AU
An Aussie Web site for Aussie gamers with local
information, news, reviews and community features
Wednesday 4th October 2006, SYDNEY – CNET Networks Australia has today launched GameSpot AU (au.gamespot.com), an informative, independent and interactive Web site that is 100 per cent focused on gaming news relevant to the Aussie gamer. The launch of the Australian Web site is an expansion of the GameSpot brand that already attracts 26 million gamers globally.
Headed by experienced technology journalist Randolph Ramsay, the GameSpot AU editorial team will deliver the latest news, hands-on reviews, in-depth features and insights on the Australian gaming industry and marketplace.
”Aussie gamers want local and global content,” said Randolph Ramsay, Editor, GameSpot AU. “Aussies can now jump onto GameSpot AU to get local gaming info, news and reviews tailored specifically for them as well as information from GameSpot globally. GameSpot AU provides the latest game release dates and editorial ratings on the hottest new games, online tournaments, game downloads, videos, strategy guides and gaming tips - it’s the ultimate pit stop for the Aussie gamer.”
GameSpot AU will also provide the facilities for gamers to set up their own independent unions, which are community run, governed and content driven Web sites. These unions are a unique portal for gamers to connect to the wider gaming community in their own personal way.
GameSpot AU already has a staggering Australian audience of nearly 700,000 who have migrated over from US sister Web site, GameSpot.com. The US site tracks over 6,000 games and powers gaming content to partners including Yahoo!, AOL, MSN and EB Games.
“According to GFK Australia, the gaming entertainment industry is buoyant in Australia with AU$273 million in hardware sales and AU$589 million in software sales within the AU games industry in 2005, “said Wendy Hogan, vice president and managing director, CNET Networks Australia. “Our background with GameSpot in the US and other worldwide locations puts us in a brilliant position to build the local community here in Australia.”
GameSpot AU viewers can access all content across the Web site. For further information, please visit the Web site at au.gamespot.com.
