Head to head: VirusScan 8.0 vs NAV 2004 It's not really an option to omit virus protection, but which vendor should you entrust your protection to? We test two of the leading candidates.

It seems like they've been a part of computing forever, but it's only in the relatively recent, Internet-enabled PC past that viruses have become a concern for each and every user. It's no longer enough to say "keep away from the dodgy software and floppy disks"; if you go out onto the Web without some form of protection, you're more than likely to pick up something, especially if you're likewise lax with your software patching routines.

McAfee and Symantec have just released the latest iterations in their popular AntiVirus lines; we've put them head to head to sort out which is the best package for your needs.

McAfee VirusScan 8.0
VirusScan 8.0 sports a trimmer profile, a simpler interface, and fast performance, but support is more of a hassle than before.

Norton AntiVirus 2004
NAV 2004 is still a good choice for first timers, but its minor improvements means NAV 2003 users need not upgrade.
