Tivoli Systems has announced Tivoli Smart Handheld Device manager which allows operations staff to manage anything from a mainframe computer to a personal digital assistant (PDA) using the same management paradigm and user interface.

Its features include: No-touch Management, wireless WAN and LAN Connectivity, Device Discovery, Software Distribution, Device Configuration, and Dynamic Device Groups.

Additional functions include server-based synchronisation support, wireless connectivity and support for Windows-powered devices. These additions further accelerate the ease and adoption of handheld devices as critical business tools by Tivoli users.

Tivoli has partnered with Extended Systems to extend the Smart HandHeld Device Manager to Windows powered devices, using the XTNDConnect Server synchronisation and management solution.

This leverages communication technology and integrates device management of wired or wireless devices into the overall Tivoli enterprise management solution. This integration provides customers with the best of both worlds: the ability to synchronise corporate data through an IT-supported synchronisation server, as well as best of breed Tivoli management technology for handheld devices.

The Tivoli Smart Handheld Device manager will be available within the next few months. For more information call Tivoli on 13 24 26 or visit their Web site.
