In an effort to keep Office 2000 as the premier home and business suite of management tools, Microsoft has released MS Office 2000 SP2 to correct some previous program errors and security vulnerabilities.

Microsoft Office 2000 continues to be one of the meat and potatoes revenue generators coming out of Redmond, Washington. In order to maintain the usefulness and reliability of such an important piece of software Microsoft continually releases small updates and hot-fixes.

SP2 is a compilation of previously released fixes and security updates for Office 2000 that are being released in one tidy package.

According to Microsoft, Office 2000 SP2 is a patch that is not required to maintain the current functionality of your Office 2000 applications but will enhance its current performance and reliability.

Notable SP2 Components

Outlook 2000 SR-1 Security Update: Its original release was to thwart e-mail viruses such as Melissa and ILOVEYOU, as well as other e-mail viruses that replicate by using Outlook 2000. This update will affect the functionality of the Outlook 2000 client.

Office 2000 Security Update HTML Data: Eliminates a security vulnerability in Microsoft Word 2000, Excel 2000, and PowerPoint 2000 that could allow a hacker to run malicious code on your PC.

In order to implement Office 2000 SP2 on your PC you must have Office 2000 SR-1 already installed. Office 2000 SR-1 is a critical Office 2000 update that most users should have already applied.
