Affordable and simple, Tweak-Me 1.2 optimises Microsoft Windows Me by improving speed, eliminating unnecessary files, and custom-dressing the auto-start.
There is always room for improvement, and that's certainly true of Microsoft Windows Me. Enter Tweak-Me: a utility designed to help you optimise and tweak your Windows Me-based PC (don't worry if you haven't upgraded to Me yet, Tweak-Me also works with Windows 9x systems). Among other capabilities, this program promises to enhance your Internet connection speed, eliminate unnecessary files on your hard drive, and customise your auto-start settings list.
The free 14-day trial download (permanent version is US$19.95 direct), available from the company's Web site (www.totalidea.de/frameset-tweak.htm), weighed in at just under 4MB. We had no problems installing Tweak-Me, and the streamlined interface was a pleasant surprise. For a program that contains so many useful features, it's extremely easy to use. The superb documentation ensures that you won't have trouble finding what you're looking for.
When launching the software, there are four buttons to guide you through tweaking your PC-System Performance, System Tweaks, Internet Tweaks, and Help/Setting. System Performance covers memory optimisation, cache optimisation, unnecessary files, and the system information menu. Our test machine has 256MB of RAM, so memory and cache optimisation weren't important to us. The unnecessary files feature, however, was particularly interesting to us; we had gobs of unnecessary files hanging around and Tweak-Me found most of them, letting us delete them quickly.
