If you're looking for interoperability in Web authoring tools, PC Magazine looks at three products with a common interface that focus on HTML editing, dynamic content design, and Web graphics.
Analysis
Macromedia's latest releases of Dreamweaver 4, Dreamweaver UltraDev 4, and Fireworks 4 lengthen the company's lead in the Web-authoring tool market. These three products focus on HTML editing, dynamic content design, and Web graphics, respectively. They also provide automated scripting capabilities, high-volume processing, and workgroup coordination.
Now Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and UltraDev all feature a common Macromedia interface. And all of the programs ship with standardised keyboard shortcuts, similar layouts for tool panels, and a common colour selector.
A major highlight is this new interoperability among the programs. In Fireworks, specifying a text object lets you edit and format HTML copy in Dreamweaver. If the file is returned to Fireworks, the changes made in Dreamweaver are preserved, not overwritten.
