Performance Charts

National & International Download Performance Charts
The "National" and "International" download performance charts are derived from all the results obtained from both the Sydney and Melbourne tests, in the latter case including both carriers Telstra and Optus. The charts show the variability of the download performance for each vendor as the minimum, maximum and average download speeds are plotted. The Y-axis values are in KB/second.

ISP Time Dependence Chart
This chart is derived from the Melbourne POP utilising Telstra as the carrier only as the 6.30pm to 9.30pm tests were not carried out in Sydney and only the afternoon testing was carried out using Optus as carrier. The chart shows the performance of each ISP in the three tested "windows": 9.30am to 12 midday, 2pm to 4.30pm and 6.30pm to 9.30pm.
The Y-axis values are in KB/second.

Points of Presence Dependence Chart
This chart compares the access to the ISP using Telstra as a carrier in Sydney and Melbourne and using the respective local numbers for the ISP under test. We are only able to perform the tests in Sydney during the morning and afternoon time "windows" and so these are the only results used to generate the chart. It is important to note that these tests were carried out from Bundoora (Melbourne) and North Sydney. However, connection speeds between the two sites were very similar, both sites averaged 48k connections, so it is fair to say the results do display performance trends for the two POPs.
The Y-axis values are in KB/second.

ISP Carrier/Line Quality Performance Comparison
It is critical that readers do not place too much signigicance on this graph. The afternoon test slot was replicated in Bundoora using both Telstra and Optus as carriers and here Optus has an advantage, in that much of the cabling and infrastructure is relatively new. Rather than imply this is Telstra versus Optus it might be farier to say that thids chart shows the advantage of connecting up to your ISP over a more modern exchange, faster modem connections. The Optus connection speed was at least as fast as the Telstra connection but at times when the Telstra connection was for example 48K the Optus connection was 49.3K.
The Y-axis values are in KB/second.

Digex (USA) Hop Count & Ping Time
We do not place a great deal of significance on these test results they are more of an academic interest than a true measure of ISP performance. At times we found the download spedd did not closely correlate to the number of hops of an ISP or its ping time. AOL ia a prime example of this with some of the worst US ping times but nevertheless quite good download speeds fron the US site.

Don’t sign any long term contracts with any ADSL Provider unless you are sure th Tom Mack -- 16/09/06

Do not use Dodo ADSL- They have really bad customer service. And technical support.

On their unlimited plan. You start downloading until it get to 1G and then the service starts to have ‘problems’ and you can’t connect no more.
When you call technical support, they give you a phone number to call only to find that a machine answers and ask you to leave your phone number. And then no one call back.
When you call customer service, you speak to a person, they redirects you to a blank line and then you hear a dial tone. Which means the line hung up.

I spoke to a customer sales representative called Steve to pay the bill using credit card. When I asked him to select a plan for the next month, instead of having to call back, his reply was : “ You have to call back next month to select.” And then he hung up on me. This is the kind of service Dodo provides.
I have never spoke to any customer service person who hangs up on the customer.
And then later I find that my service was suspended. Even though I had just spoke to Steve 5 minutes earlier to pay for that month using my credit card.

I am on a 3 months contract with DoDo. I still have 2 months left to go. After this kind of customer service I get I will not be using them after the 3 months period.

Note: If you disconnect before 3 months they charge you a disconnection fee $100.

Don’t sign any long term contracts with any ADSL Provider unless you are sure that you trust the service.
