First Take: Zone Labs ZoneAlarm Pro 4.0 April 22, 2003 URL: http://www.zdnet.com.au/reviews/software/internet/soa/First-Take-Zone-Labs-ZoneAlarm-Pro-4-0/0,139023437,120273865,00.htm
Due out later this year, ZoneAlarm Pro 4.0 promises changes that are much more subtle than ZAP 3.0, but no less powerful. Last year, ZoneLabs unveiled a whole new look and feel for the release of its popular ZoneAlarm Pro 3.0. Due out this June, ZoneAlarm Pro 4.0 promises changes that are much more subtle but no less powerful. (The Pro version of 4.0 will be available for US$50, and ZoneLabs will release a free, stripped-down version of 4.0 available shortly thereafter.) A software firewall should open and close Internet-connected ports on your computer. From what we've seen so far, ZoneAlarm Pro (ZAP) 4.0 does this and then some. Although ZoneAlarm 4.0 will look more or less like version 3.0, ZoneLabs has added depth to a number of popular features. Here's an overview of what we know is coming; watch this space for our full, critical review of the final product. Outbound MailSafe: Hacker ID: New firewall controls: Automatic VPN configuration: Privacy features: ZoneAlarm Pro 4.0 will remove your system's hard drive and browser cache files, Internet temporary files, Recycle Bin files, and search history so that none of them can be used to report on your Internet or computer usage. ZAP 4.0 also blocks pop-up ads and manages cookies.
