Jasc Software, maker of the ever-popular Paint Shop Pro, has just released a beta version of its most popular graphic editing program. Paint Shop Pro 7.0 beta takes the previous version of Paint Shop Pro to new heights of functionality and usability by adding features geared towards all users. New features have been added for photo editing, designing web graphics, and illustration.

Photo Editing
Paint Shop Pro 7 includes many useful tools and utilities for the digital photographer. Now, you can go out and shoot your favourite subjects and edit your photos to achieve the look they deserve. Red-eye is a thing of the past. The Red-eye Removal tool can remove the red-eye effect caused by flash photography and even change the colour of eyes that have no red-eye.

Jasc has added several commands that take care of most problems associated with digital photography. These features include:

Automatic Contrast Enhancement

  • Automatic Color Balance

  • Automatic Saturation Enhancement

  • Fade Correction

  • Clarify (restores detail in blurred images)

  • Paint Shop Pro 7 beta comes with other features designed to correct image defects associated with digital photography. At times you can get images that have missing or misaligned scan lines from video captures. A Deinterlace command will make the needed adjustments to give you image a more finished look. A JPEG Artifact Removal command comes in handy to repair image damage caused by repeatedly resaving or assertive use of JPEG compression.

    Making Your Images Pop
If you are looking to add some special effects to your images, the many new effects available in Paint Shop Pro 7 beta may surprise you. Effects such as Aged Newspaper and Sepia can change the mood of your image by giving it a hint of days-gone-by. Others, such as Brush Strokes, Sandstone and Fine Leather, can make your images feel nice and earthy. For some of the most outrageous effects, you can try Colored Foil, Enamel, Plastic and Lights.

    Tool Enhancements
To improve the usability, Jasc has updated some of the drawing tools included in Paint Shop Pro. These advances consist of:

  • Draw, Text and Preset Shapes tools that can now use patterns and textures

  • Lines can now be customised to create dashed or dotted lines

  • Shapes can be reused if exported using the Preset Shapes tool

  • Vector information can be read, saved, and retained
  • Additional Tools and Enhancements
Paint Shop Pro 7 beta now furnishes snap-to grids and guides allowing you to easily align various parts of our images. If you have to execute a specific task multiple times, you can save yourself some frustration by using the Repeat command. This will duplicate the last command executed. If you ever had the misfortune of losing your work due to a power outage or system error, the new Autosave option can save you from this headache. You can specify how often your work is saved in one-minute increments.
