Pundits are predicting a slow tech year, but that doesn't mean that there won't be gizmos to catch your eye and snag your wallet.
The hurting economy has chilled R&D spending in many hardware companies. And since it takes a year or more for lab work to see the light of day in finished products, in 2003 we'll be seeing work done in 2001 and 2002, which were also years that companies cut back on research funding.
But we've been gazing at our office crystal ball (it's actually a circular TFT LCD at 1024x768 pixel resolution, powered by a Discontinuum Vortex Drive, hidden behind the biscuit tins in the pantry) and in its swirling surface, we see that this year won't be completely without drama.
