Sony has released a battery charger, the Sony Super Quick Charger, which claims to fully recharge compatible batteries in around 105 minutes. The charger retails for AU$79.95 and includes two of Sony's rechargeable AA NiMH batteries, which the company says can be recharged up to 500 times. The charger is touted as being ideal for travellers at 110 grams and covering a worldwide voltage range of 100-240 volts.

Facing stiffer competition in the hand-held market, Palm has announced two new promotions. The smarter business case promotion includes a Palm m515, AU$100 cash back, free software and a 4 issue subscription to Fortune Magazine, for AU$869. The Palm m130 Cash-back offer simply gives you a AU$150 cash-back coupon when you spend AU$639 on a Palm m130. Both offers last from July 1 to August 31.

3Com has announced the July release of OfficeConnect Cable/DSL Secure Gateway, which contains a packet of security features for a broadband Internet connection. It also allows multiple users to connect to a single cable or DSL line.

Handspring has announced the Australian availability of the Treo 270, which has all the capabilities of the Treo 180 plus a little bit more. It comes with a full colour display, and combines a mobile phone with wireless applications, Internet browsing and a Palm OS organiser, with a full QWERTY keyboard. It has been certified for use on the Vodafone network. The cost is AU$1,599, although that will vary with individual service contracts.

HP has announced three new scanners which include software for users to copy images to CDs (if they have a CD Writer), and view the images on PC, VCD or DVD (if the DVD player supports it). The Scanjet 2300c has a 600 x 1200 dpi optical resolution, previews scans in 14 seconds and goes for AU$169. For AU$249 you can get a 10 second scan at 1200 x 1200 dpi with the Scanjet 3500, and a further hundred dollars for the Scanjet 3570c adds a built-in adaptor for scanning 35mm negatives and slides.
