Trend Micro has released PC-cillin 2003, a security package that claims to protect users from script based attacks when using e-mail, instant messaging or Web traffic, and runs on a dialup, wireless or broadband network. It retails at Manaccom at AU$89.95, and the upgrade version is AU$39.95.
Canon has released a wide-format printer, the AU$4.070 W2200. It prints at a 2400 x 1200 dpi resolution, according to Canon, and can produce six A3 pages per minute.
Canon has also released another scanner, the AU$14,465 DR-4580U, which can scan delicate and oversize materials. Canon reckons the scanner can automatically detect document features such as page length, width, thickness and weight, and can scan 56 ppm (simplex) to 92 ppm (duplex). Canon hopes this, along with the one-pass feature, will be enough time-saving options for people to pay the fairly hefty price.
Epson has released a couple of multi-function printers into the market. The AU$399 Stylus CX3100 prints in colour and black and white at 5760 x 720 dpi, and scans at 600 x 1200 dpi, while achieving 48-bit colour depth according to Epson. It also copies at 10 cpm. The Stylus CX5100 is pretty much the same, with better stats. It prints at 5760 x 1440 dpi and scans at 1200x 2400 dpi. It copies at 15 cpm, and retails for AU$599.
Belkin has released three Bluetooth devices in Australia, able to exchange data at speeds up to 721 Kbps and utilise 128-bit encryption. The Bluetooth Universal Serial Bus (USB) Adapter retails at AU$149.95. It's designed to be plug-and-play simple, according to Belkin, and allows users to wirelessly print, synchronise with a PDA and use a mobile to access the Internet, working at distances up to 100m. The AU$249.94 Bluetooth PC Card seems to do much the same, except it is inserted into a Cardbus Type II slot on the PC or Notebook and only works up to 10 m. Lastly, the Bluetooth PDA Adapter Card slots into the CompactFlash Type II slot on a Pocket PC, works up to 10 m and offers low power consumption, which Belkin says will allow the batteries to last longer. It goes for AU$249.95.
SnapGear has brought out a couple of new enterprise-class firewalls incorporating intrusion detection systems, both narrowband and broadband access and lifetime firmware upgrades. SnapGear intends the AU$649 SME530 to be used with a VPN throughput of up to 3Mbps. It supports up to 250 simultaneous remote workers and branch office connections, and has two 10/100 ethernet ports. Meanwhile, the SME550 is intended for large enterprises with VPN throughput speeds up to 10Mbps. It can support up to 500 simultaneous remote workers and branch office connections and goes for AU$949.
PeopleSoft has released some new CRM programs tailored to certain businesses. For example, the CRM for High Tech is aimed at those companies that manufacture or distribute hardware, software and other technology products. CRM for Energy energy producers, transmission companies, retailers and distributors of tamed lightning, while CRM for Insurance is targeted, surprisingly enough, at insurance companies.
If you want even more CRM, Onyx has released a couple of integrated portal solutions. The Onyx Customer Portal 4.0 is designed to create a customer community on a Web site, for things like permission email marketing, literature fulfilment and online surveys. On the other hand, Onyx Partner Portal delivers a solutions aimed at partners.
LIUtilities has released WinBackup, which is designed to make backups easier. It boasts functions such as automatic backups, data compression and encryption and detailed logs of all backup operations. It costs US$29.95.
For Linux sysadmins, Legato has released Legato Networker for Linux on the Mainframe, which is touted as a backup and recovery solution for business-critical Linux data on IBM eServer zSeries. Legato claims the solution minimises downtime costs, reduces management overhead and maximises ROI of storage resources.
NetIQ has released a product to allow companies to monitor the performance of Exchange e-mail. AppAnalyzer for Exchange measures message delivery times, unused public folders or distribution lists, message content notification and chargeback information, according to NetIQ. A 30-day trial version is available from the site.
ThinSoft Inc has released a product designed to allow multiple remote desktop protocol 5.1-enabled thin client devices to connect to a Windows XP computer over a TCP/IP connection and run Windows applications simultaneously and independently. Winconnect is available for download as a free trial.
