New LaCie CD Writer 16 Speed

LaCie have announced their new SCSI and Firewire CD_RW-161040 drives, which boast the fastest writing speed of the industry.

The 16x record speed helps churn out discs faster, letting users burn an entire 650MB CD-R media in just four minutes (excluding lead-in and lead-out times). Extracting digital music from a 74 minute CD takes a mere 3 minutes.

The drives specs offer professional users the solution for advanced CD-recording applications such as copying CDs, archiving data files or creating multimedia production.

The CD-RW-161040 can also be used to archive important files and for limited backup. Each rewriteable disc can be written and re-written over 1,000 times and remain unaffected by magnetic fields. The 10x-rewriting speed of the CD-RW enables the formatting of a 650MB CD-RW in just over 6 minutes, making daily back up of valuable files a reality. Automatic backup can be set-up using the Retrospect Express software.

The versatile drive works with most kinds of media. The Running Optimum Power control feature provides an automatic recognition of the inserted media and an automatic adaptation of the recording speed to the media. Disc-At-Once, Session-At-Once and Packet Writing are supported. The CDs produced by the CD-R function of the drives can be read on ordinary CD-ROM drives, CD-Audio player, CDR drives, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM and MultiRead CD/DVD drives.

The 8MB buffer, coupled with high transfer rates ensures a continuous data stream, providing enhanced prevention of buffer underrun. Both CD-RW- 161040 also incorporate the Pure Phase Laser System that guarantees high quality recording by stabilising the laser power and eliminating unwanted reflections.

With Firewire support, the CD-RW-161040 is hot pluggable and can be removed or swapped with other devices without requiring the computer to be restarted. The drive mounts automatically as soon as it is connected and there is no need for terminators, device IDs or elaborate set-up.

The CD-RW-161040 is available now through LaCie's authorised sellers and mail order partners.
