This new desktop photo printer offers true borderless images up to 8.5x11 inches, plus camera-to-printer capability.Replacing the popular i550 inkjet photo printer will be hard, but Canon thinks that it has found the answer in its new i560. Using the printhead and many components from the i850 photo printer engine, the i560 claims to print up to 22 pages per minute (ppm) in black text and up to 15ppm in color.
Upside: The printer offers true borderless images up to 8.5x11 inches and uses EXIF, a worldwide digital image format, to faithfully reproduce digital images. The i560 includes software to assemble images into albums and print them from your PC. It's also the first printer to adopt the multi-vendor PictBridge standard.
Downside: To take advantage of the direct camera-to-printer option, users must choose cameras that are either Bubble Jet Direct or PictBridge compatible. While PictBridge is a standard that a number of camera and printer manufacturers have agreed upon, the only PictBridge cameras currently announced are (you've guessed it) all Canon-branded.
Outlook: Priced at AU$299, the i560 should be competitive in the marketplace.
